Q:- Where were Gautam Buddha actually born?

-> Lumbini in Nepal..

Gautama Buddha is believed to have lived between 563 BC and 483 BC.

It is said that when his pregnant mother Maya Devi was leaving
Kapilvastu to deliver Gautama at her father’s place at Rangram she gave birth to a beautiful child in the gardens of Lumbini below the sal tree. It is believed that she bathed in a bricked pool called Puskarni and then walked 25 paces to deliver the baby.

The child was named Siddhartha who later on came to be known as Gautama Buddha. He is said to have emerged from her right side and taken seven steps in the four directions; as he walked, lotus flowers bloomed.

Sadly, Maya Devi died seven days after his birth and he was brought up by her younger sister and the second wife of Suddhodan Pajapati.

The birthplace of Gautam Buddha is situated on the foothills of Himalaya in the kingdom of Nepal and the day on which Siddhartha Gautam was born is celebrated as Vesak.

The central focus at Lumbini is the Maya Devi temple. A stone relief probably 2nd century AD shows her giving birth to the Buddha watched by the two Hindu gods Brahma and Indra. King Ashoka visited the Lumbii forest and constructed four stupas and stone pillars with horse figure on top of it.

Q:- Who started the Khalsa Movement?

-> Guru Govind Singh...

Guru Gobind Singh ji the Tenth from the human Guru of Sikhism were born in Friday January 5, 1666 in Patna, Bihar. He beacam Guru following the footsteps of his father Guru Teg Bahadur ji on November 11, 1675.

The word "Khalsa" is derived from Arabic khalis and Perso-Arabic khalisah literally meaning "pure". It is the name given by Guru Govind singh to all Sikhs who have bapisted by taking Amrit in a ceremony called Amrit Sanchar.

The rise of the Sikh Khalsa dates back to April 13, 1699 at a place called Kesgarh Sahib at Anandpur in India.

The story of Khalsa movement is very insteresting and inspiring. The Guru drew his sword and in a thundering voice asked the crowd that whom among them would give his head for his sword which he said was thirsty for blood and die for their faith. There was a dead silence. The guru gave the second call. Nobody came forward. There was even more silence. On the third
call a khatri of lahore named Daya Ram raised.

The Guru took Daya Ram inside a tent. Then the Guru with his sword dripping with blood came out. He then asked the crowd for the second head. Dharam Das a jhat from Delhi came forward. Guru then took him to the tent. Guru then again emerged dripping his blood with fresh blood.

Asking for another volunteer another man stepped forth. Mohkam Chand, a calico priner/tailor of Dwarka offered himself as a sacrifice. The Guru took him inside the tent and went through the same process. When he came out, he made a call for the fourth head. The Sikhs began to think that he was going to kill all of them. Some of them ran away.

Himmat Chand, a cook of Jagan Nath Puri, offered himself as a fourth sacrifice. Then the Guru made a fifth and the last call for a fifth head. Sahib Chand, a barber of Bidar came forward and the Guru took him inside the tent. All the men were of a different caste, each ready to be slaughtered for his faith in his Guru.

But it was found later that the none of the five men were actually killed, and these five men became the Panj Piyare (Five pure ones). These five men were then baptized and they became the Khalsa Brotherhood.

A Khalsa must carry these five symbols, known as Panj Kakka with them always.
  1. Kanga: A Khalsa must always carry a small comb in order to keep his/her hair in place.
  2. Kachcha: A Khalsa must always wear warrior shorts as it provides agility and swift movement to a warrior. It is also a symbol of chastity.

  4. Kesh: A Khalsa must not cut hair as naturally grown hair gives the appearance of a saint. A turban must be worn on the head to protect the hair.
  5. Kirpan: A Khalsa warrior must have a Kirpan or a small sword for the purpose of defense and protection. It not only protects self but can also be used for defending the weak and helpless.
The khalsa was also a major military force of the saint warriors that protect the weak and defenseless against the atrocities of mughal rulers.

Guru ji left his mortal body on thursday 21 october 1708. On the site of the house at Patna in which Gobind Singh ji were born and where he spent his early childhood now stands a sacred shrine, Sri Patna Sahib Gurdwara, Bihar.

Sesmic Belt

Q:- Places on Earth which have equal sensation of earthquake are called?

-> Seismic belts..

Seismic Belts are defined as one of the broad, more or less well-defined, elongated zones in which most earthquakes originate.

The outermost layer of the Earth (lithosphere) is made up of several large tectonic plates. The edges where these plates move against one another are the location of interplate earthquakes that produce the seismic belts.

An area where large numbers of earthquakes and volcanic eruptions occur in the basin of the Pacific Ocean is named Ring of Fire. In a 40,000 km horseshoe shape, it is associated with a nearly continuous series of oceanic trenc
hes, volcanic arcs, and volcanic belts or plate movements. It covers the Circum Pacific belt which covers the Pacific Ocean and Alpide Belt, which stretches from the Azores through the Mediterranean and Middle East to the Himalayas and Indonesia, where it joins the Circum-Pacific Belt.

About 90% of the world's earthquakes and 80% of the world's largest earthquakes occur along the Ring of Fire.

When and where a earthquake is going to strike no one can predict. But despite of this there are some safety measures that should be taken during an earthquake..

  1. Take cover under a sturdy desk, table or other furniture. Hold the position until the ground stop shaking, or if you want to move than prepare to move with it.
  2. Do not rush to the doors and try to exit through the lift. Keep away from windows,mirrors, chimneys and mirrors.If possible then protect yourself by taking the corner of a room.
  3. If you are outside then get into the open and away from the power lines and buildings and specially the old ones.
  4. If you are driving, stop if it is safe, but stay inside your car. Stay away from bridges, flyovers and tunnels. Move your car away from the normal traffic pattern, as far as possible and park it on the roadside. Avoid stopping under trees, light posts or power lines.
  5. If you are in a hilly area, or near unstable slopes or cliffs, be alert for falling rocks and other debris, which could be loosened by the earthquake.
The things you should not do after the earthquake:-

  1. Do not panic.
  2. Do not spread and believe in rumours.
  3. Do not use candles, matches, etc and do not switch on any electric mains immediately after an earthquake.

Gyroscope..

Q:- Who invented the Gyroscope and when?

-> G.C. Bohmenberger in about 1810...

The first gyroscope was devised by a German, G.C. Bohmenberger but it was named by a French physicist Leon Foucault in 1852. Foucault used the device to demonstrate the rotation of Earth.

The name has its origin from the two Greek word: gyros means 'turn or revolution'; an skopein means to 'view'. Therefore gyroscope means ,''to view the turning".

The instrument is based on the same principle as that of the spinning top. A gyroscope basically has a heavy wheel. Most of its weight is concentrated in the rim. This gives the wheel a large moment of inertia. It resists attempts to change its position. If an attempt is made to tilt its it will start moving in another direction in a circle. This is known as precision.

The main application of gyroscope is in airplanes and ships. Ordinary compasses rely on Earth's magnetic field to point out the right direction. But Earth's magnetism varies from place to place. Hence the magnetic compasses are not fully reliable and extremely misleading towards the north and south poles. Here gyroscope serves a useful purpose as it is not affected by Earth's magnetism.

As the axis of gyroscope is set to point to Earth's geographical north pole no matter what direction the ship takes, helps the navigator to set the ship's course accurately by the axis.

It will be interesting to know that when a tip of gyroscope is set spinning it can be balanced on a pencil point and will not fall as long as it spins fast enough.. It wheel's axis points continuously in the direction it is first set at.
Here is a video to demonstrate the principle of gyroscope:-

A guy lost his girlfriend in a train accident... but the gal's name nowhere appeared in the dead list.

This guy grew up and became IT technical architect in his late 20's, achievement in itself!! He hired developers from the whole globe and plan to make a
software where he could search for his girlfriend through the web...

Things went as planned... and he found her, after losing millions of dollars and 3 long years!!

It was time to shut down the search operation, when the CEO of Google had a word with this guy and took over this application. This Software made a whopping 1 billion dollars profit in its first year, which we today know as ORKUT. Named after Orkut Büyükkökten, a Google employee...

Orkut was launched on January 22, 2004 by Google as independent project of
Orkut Büyükkökten, a Turkish software engineer. The community membership was originally by invitation only. At first year, United States had the largest user base. Brazilians began adopting
and inviting more friends, in a viral driven by the blogosphere.

Soon after, Brazil surpassed U.S. in number of users and orkut started becoming heavily popular in Brazil. Americans then started leaving the service and switching to other similar sites such as MySpace and Friendster. This phenomenon was covered by the English blogosphere with some criticism towards Brazilians because they communicate among themselves using their native language Portuguese and not English. In 2007 orkut began attracting large amount of Indians who were not intimidated by the number of Brazilians on the site.Though orkut is less popular in United States than facebook and myspace but it is most visited in Brazil and India.

As of May 2009, 49.83% of Orkut's users are from Brazil, followed by India with 17.51%.
Originally hosted in California, in August 2008 Google announced that Orkut will be fully managed and operated in Brazil, by Google Brazil, in the city of Belo Horizonte.
This was decided due to the large Brazilian user...

Go Gooo...gle

Q:- Who made Google?

-> Sergey Brin and Larry Page....

Larry page a Ph.D student of Stanford university began Google in January in 1996 as a research project. Page focused on the problem of finding out which web pages link to a given page, considering the number and nature of backlinks to be valuable information about that page.The project was nicknamed
"BackRub". Sargey Brin also a Ph.D student from Stanford joined Brin to extend his project. The web crawler began exploring the web in March 1996, setting out from Page's own Stanford home page as its only starting point.

Originally the search engine used the Stanford web
site with the domain google.stanford.edu.

The backlink data that it gathered into a measure of importance for a given web page, Brin and Page developed the PageRank algorithm. Analyzing BackRub's output which, for a given URL, consisted of a list of backlinks ranked
by importance it occurred to them that a search engine based on PageRank would produce better results than existing techniques. Page and Brin tested their thesis as part of their studies, and laid the foundation for their search engine.

Sean Anderson (a mate of Larry and Brin) and Larry were in their office, using the whiteboard, trying to think up a good name - something that related to the indexing of an immense amount of data.

Sean verbally suggested the word "
googolplex," and Larry responded verbally with the shortened form, "googol" (both words refer to specific large numbers).
Sean was seated at his computer terminal, so he executed a search of the Internet domain name registry
database to see if the newly suggested name was still available for registration and use.

Sean made the mistake of searching for the name spelled as "google.com," which he found to be available. Larry liked the name, and within hours he took the step of registering the name "google.com" which refers to the number represented by a 1 followed by one-hundred zeros.

Later with the increasing popularity the word google was added to the dictionary as a verb meaning "to use the Google search engine to obtain information on the Internet."
By the end of 1998, Google had an index of about 60 million pages. The domain google.com was registered on September 15, 1997.
The company's unofficial slogan is "Don't be evil".

Q:- When was the first railway line started in India?

-> 1853..

On April 16, 1853, the first passenger train between Bori Bunder, Bombay and Thana covering a distance of 34 km (21 miles) was inaugurated, formally heralding the birth of railways in India.

However, The first train in India was operational on December 22, 1851, used for the hauling of construction material in Roorkee.

The Governor-General of India at that time, Lord Hardinge deliberated on the proposal from the
commercial, military and political view
points. He came to the conclusion that the East India
Company should assist private capitalists who sought to setup a rail system in India. In 1832 a proposal was made to build a railroad between Madras and Bangalore but it never materialised.

The British government encouraged the setting up of railways by private investors under a scheme that would guarantee an annual return of 5% during the initial years of operation.
Once completed, the company would be passed under government ownership, but would be operated by the company that built them.

by the time of India's independence in 1947 they had grown to forty-t
wo rail systems. In 1951 the systems were nationalised as one unit—Indian Railways—to form one of the largest networks in the world. The broad gauge is the majority and original standard gauge in India; more recent networks of metre and narrow gauge are being replaced by broad gauge. The steam locomotives have been replaced over the years with diesel and electric locomotives.

The Indian Railways is the largest railway system in the world under a single management. It employs about 1.6 million people, making itself the second largest commercial or utility employer in the world. Each year, more than 4 billion passenger journeys are made by Indian railway. Trains in India are not merely means of transportation, they are living organisms- accommodating mini-Indias inside them and traveling place to place...

Q:- Who is the world greatest Dramatists?

-> William Shakespeare...

Scholars consider William Shakespeare the world's greatest dramatists. Shakespear is called England's national poet and the "Bard of Avon". His early plays were mainly comedies and histories. He then wrote mainly tragedies until about 1608, including Hamlet, King Lear, and Macbeth, considered some of the finest works in the English language. In his last phase, he wrote tragicomedies, also known as ro
mances.

He wrote 37 plays which are classified into three types that is, historical, tregedies and comedies. The historical plays give an account of the life of a historical person. The characters and the situations in the historical deviate from the actual only to make their motives and actions understandable to the people. Shakespeare's historicals include Henry V, Julius Ceaser and Antony and Cleopatra.

Tragedies are sad plays but they show his deep understanding of the human mind and nature. They include Hamlet, King Lear, Othello and Romeo and Juliet.

His comedies are lively and full of wit and humour. They includ
e Midsummer's Night Dream and Twelfth Night.

William Shakespeare was the son of John Shakespeare, a successful glover and alderman. He was born in Stratford-upon-Avon and baptised on 26 April 1564. His actual birthdate is unknown, but is traditionally observed on 23 April St. George. He was the third child of eight and the eldest surviving son.

At 18, he married the 26-year-old Anne Hathaway, who was pregnant. Susanna, the first of their three children, was born six months later on 26 May 1583. However, over the centuries readers have pointed to Shakespeare's sonnets as evidence of his love for a young man.

Others read the same passages as the expression of intense friendship rather than sexual love. At the same time, the twenty-six so-called "Dark Lady" sonnets, addressed to a married woman, are taken as evidence of heterosexual relationship.

Some other speculations over the centuries surrounding various aspects of Shakespeare's life include his religious affiliation,sources for collaborations, authorship of and chronology of the plays and sonnets.
